Janamitra Devan

 

 

"Dev" is Director of Global Practice Management with McKinsey's Strategy Practice and Director of its Institute for Corporate Excellence.

He joined McKinsey in 1999, from the World Bank where he was the Program Manager for the Middle East and North Africa in the Bank's Foreign Direct Investment Advisory Services. Prior to this, he was with Standard and Poor's DRI where he was Principal and Director of the company's Asia Consulting Services.

Dev's consulting experience has been focused both on public and private sector clients. In private sector, he helped develop, build and implement strategic change programs for clients in diverse geographies. In public sector work, he led several large-scale economic development projects in Asia (Pakistan, Malaysia, S. Korea) and the Middle-East and at the state levels in North America. At the World Bank, he led missions to Palestine, Iran, the Tumen River Delta, Thailand, Columbia, Ireland, and Zambia. His work there centered on advising governments on the impact of incentive structures and investment promotion programs, and institutional change required for effective attraction of MNCs. At Standard & Poors' DRI, Janamitra served as a Principal & Chief International Economic Advisor for North American clients.

In his current positions, Dev overseas McKinsey's global strategy practice, helping to deliver McKinsey's best knowledge and know-how on strategy to a diverse portfolio of clients. As Director of the Institute for Corporate Excellence, Dev leads a group to better understand the long-term resilience of corporations and organizations throughout the world.

He was born and grew up in Singapore. In 1987 Dev obtained his PhD in Business Economics and Public Policy from Indiana University. He has published in a wide area of business journals and is frequently asked to present views on strategy, public policy, and organizational change.

Dev lives in Maryland with his wife, Sabrina, and their three children, Gita, Priya, & Avi.
