Catalyzing Tanzanian Enterprises through Impact-Linked Finance to Advance Economic Empowerment for Women and Youth


Daraja Impact is a 5-year project that supports Tanzanian small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) by providing impact-linked finance and technical assistance to advance economic inclusion and empowerment for women and youth. Daraja Impact is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation through the Embassy of Switzerland in Tanzania as part of the Innovation for Social Change Program. Daraja Impact is  implemented by Small Enterprise Assistance Funds (SEAF) in partnership with AlphaMundi Foundation.

Our Approach

Daraja Impact aims to support Tanzanian enterprises through a comprehensive approach that includes:

  1. provision of impact-linked finance, including non-repayable funding and loans, ranging between USD 50,000 to USD 250,000 to catalyze private sector funding;
  2. business support services that include investment readiness and impact management trainings provided by SEAF’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development; and
  3. targeted post-funding technical assistance.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Sectors: Open to all innovative businesses in non-extractive sectors including agribusiness, healthcare, financial services, and education.
  • Impact focus: Enterprises that advance youth and/or women’s economic empowerment as demonstrated in company ownership, workforce participation, supply chains or customer base.
  • Years in operation: at least 2 years of incorporation, preferred 3 years.
  • Other Key Criteria: Enterprises must show:
    • Willingness to integrate impact management and gender equity principles into their operations.
    • Demonstrable potential to grow and scale nationally or internationally via innovative solutions and business models, and
    • Formal registration with BRELA, possess a business license, and have Tax Identification Number (TIN)
