SEAF Selected as “Emeritus Impact Manager” for ImpactAssets 50 2021

Washington, DC –  March 2, 2021 – SEAF is pleased to announce it has been recognized as “Emeritus Impact Manager” by Impact Assets for the ImpactAssets 50 2021 (IA 50). The new Emeritus category recognizes impact fund managers who have been on the IA 50 for a minimum of five years. This is SEAF’s eighth year on the IA 50.

SEAF was chosen by IA 50 based on a variety of characteristics,  including its more than 30-year history of SME investing, extensive geographic network, and dedication to creating positive social and/or environmental change through investments in emerging and frontier economies. This commitment is demonstrated by the fact that 100% of the firm’s assets under management are impact investments. Since its founding, SEAF’s 430 SME investees have provided over 65,000 quality jobs and helped their communities move closer to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Going forward, the firm is focused on investing in entrepreneurs who are helping their communities build climate resilience, food security and increase inclusion.

“SEAF is proud to be recognized as ‘Emeritus Impact Manager’ by Impact Assets,” commented SEAF co-CEO Agnes Dasewicz. “Impact and ESG investing will be more important than ever in a post-COVID world. The devastating effects of the pandemic, particularly on small and medium-sized businesses, and on communities in which they thrive, have only strengthened our sense of urgency and resolve to expand our efforts.”

The IA 50 is recognized as a leading resource for the impact investing industry.  The free online database features a diversified listing of private capital fund managers delivering social and environmental impact as well as financial returns for impact investors, family offices, financial advisors and institutional investors.  Now in its tenth year, the total assets under management among selected fund managers reached a record $228 billion, up from an initial AUM of $6.8 billion in 2010. In recognition of this rapid growth in the industry, the “Emeritus Impact Manager” category was established, highlighting 27 investors with a combined $8.8 billion under management.

“As impact investing continues its inexorable rise, it is critical to provide investors with a curated, objective evaluation of impact fund managers,” commented Jennifer Kenning, CEO and Co-Founder of Align Impact and IA 50 Senior Investment Advisor. “The IA 50 is built to filter out the noise that is growing louder in impact investing and help investors focus on deep, meaningful impact.”

The IA 50 Review Committee is comprised of 14 leaders in the impact investing field, including Jed Emerson, Senior Fellow at Impact Assets and IA 50 Review Committee Chair, Fran Seegull, President of the U.S. Impact Investing Alliance, and Cynthia Muller, Director of Mission Investment at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, among others.

About the ImpactAssets 50

The IA 50 is the first publicly available database that provides a gateway into the world of impact investing for investors and their financial advisors, offering an easy way to identify experienced impact investment firms and explore the landscape of potential investment options. The IA 50 is intended to illustrate the breadth of impact investment fund managers operating today, though it is not a comprehensive list. Firms have been selected to demonstrate a wide range of impact investing activities across geographies, sectors and asset classes.

The IA 50 is not an index or investable platform and does not constitute an offering or recommend specific products. It is not a replacement for due diligence. In order to be considered for the IA 50 2021, fund managers needed to have at least $25 million in assets under management, more than three years of experience as a firm with impact investing, documented social and/or environmental impact and be available for US investment. Additional details on the selection process are available here.
