José is currently Managing Director of the SEAF Caribbean Sea Clean Energy Fund, a new $150 million equity plus $100 million debt fund focused on clean energy investments in Central America and the Caribbean. He has over 20 years of experience as a senior banker, private equity and venture capital investor and entrepreneur. Previously he served as Managing Director of US Renewables Group, a private equity firm focused on renewable energy and cleantech investments with approximately $800 million in assets under management. Jose is a co-founder of several cleantech and technology startups, including HYBRICO Energy Technologies, Ltd., a Guatemala-based clean technology company that designs, manufactures, installs and operates “hybrid power” solutions for telecommunications towers in emerging markets, Chopinmol.com, an ecommerce platform focused on Latin American immigrants living in the US, and Bitmec, an online telemedicine platform addressing the healthcare needs of people living in poor rural communities. José also serves as Senior Advisor to Kingo Energy, a Guatemalan startup that offers prepaid solar energy in off-grid communities.
Previously, José was CEO of Pan American Hydro Corporation, a Canadian developer of run-of-river hydroelectric power plants in Latin America. Prior to that, he worked as Managing Partner of Grevillea Capital, a Spanish boutique investment banking and private equity firm focused on the European renewable energy markets. Jose was also CEO of Global3 Energia, a Spanish independent power producer owned by ArcLight Capital, a leading US energy private equity fund, and spent time as head of Citigroup’s Latin American Power Group in New York, where he completed over $12 billion in M&A and capital-raising transactions. Jose serves as Chairman of the Guatemalan Venture Capital Association. He holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business, a JD from Stanford Law School and a B.A. in Economics (magna cum laude) from the University of Maryland.
